FAMILY HOTEL VICTORIA, BC MAP

When considering the best family hotels in Victoria, BC, location is key. Fortunately, the city is compact and easy to navigate.

Most major attractions are located near Victoria’s lovely Inner Harbour. Nearly all of my recommended family hotels are within walking distance of the harbour, except for The Hotel Zed. (I’ve included The Hotel Zed, despite it being an 8-minute drive from the harbour, as it is a charming, budget-friendly option popular with families.)

I have detailed each hotel and its features in the next section, but if you want a quick visual, I have also plotted them on this map in gold.

1. THE VICTORIA REGENT WATERFRONT

The Victoria Regent Waterfront Hotel is one of the best family hotels in Victoria, B.C (and in my opinion, one of the most underrated). The location is fantastic, and the stunning harbour view, with its constant activity, keeps kids mesmerized.

The property offers some very spacious suites (up to 1800 sq.ft.) with full kitchens, floor-to-ceiling windows and large decks. The largest of the units, the 2 bedroom, can sleep up to 6 people and is one of the best family hotel Victoria options for a large family.

Note: For over 15 years, I’ve been staying at the Regent each December with my kids in one room and my sister and her two kids in another. It’s the perfect spot for us to be together while still having our own space.

Room Tip: Harbour view rooms are well worth the splurge.

2. THE HOTEL ZED

The funky Hotel Zed is a ton of fun for families. It is also a great pick if you are looking for budget-friendly family hotels in Victoria, BC. with room options that that can sleep 5.

This colourful property has a pool, a 3-storey waterslide, a ping pong table, bikes for loan (kids/tandem bikes too), a retro VW van to shuttle you around and much more. You can even rent their Airstream (the Zedstream) if you want to do some urban glamping.

Although more removed from Victoria’s downtown core, this hotel makes up for this distance in amenities. Between the pool, the waterslide, the on-site restaurant…your kids may not want to leave the property!

3. THE FAIRMONT EMPRESS

Fairmont Empress – Family Hotels Victoria BC

You may feel like honoured guests at a castle when staying at the lovely Fairmont Empress! This Grand-Dame classic Victoria hotel has recently undergone an extensive 60 million dollar renovation that included their lobby, guest rooms, spa, pool and health club.

Like all Fairmont properties, this hotel does an exceptional job of catering to families with babysitting services, special kids’ activities, pint-sized robes, a kids’ menu (including a special prince and princess tea service), and a lovely indoor heated pool. Located right at the base of Victoria’s Inner Harbour, the location simply can’t be beat and this property is definitely the best family hotel in Victoria BC in the luxury accommodations category.

Note: I’ve often heard people stay that the Empress has “small rooms”. On a recent stay however, we had a renovated “Deluxe Double Queen Room” for our family of four (over 400 sq. feet) and it was perfect. It even had a sitting area that included a sofabed. According to the front desk, not all the Deluxe Double Queens have the additional sofabed. I would suggest calling ahead to request if you have an extra little person to accommodate.

Check rates and availably at on the Fairmont Empress website.

  1. Your readers should know that the Oak Bay Beach Hotel and Spa no longer allows kids younger than 16 in the pool area. The hotel offers vouchers to a local rec center, but the family swim times at the center look pretty limited.

    1. Hello Jessica,
Thank you so much for updating me on this and I am very sorry if it caused you (and your family) any inconvenience or disappointment. I have just spoken to the hotel and it seems they changed the policy in April. The pools aside, I hope you enjoyed your time in Victoria.
      Warm Regards,
      Tara
