The Long Beach Lodge Resort – Beachfront Hotel Tofino, BC

We typically visit Tofino once a year and are always tempted by the many wonderful beachfront hotel options. Between the plethora of choices and a number of gorgeous vacation rentals, it can be tough to make a decision. There is one hotel in particular that we keep coming back to however – The Long Beach Lodge Resort on beautiful Cox Bay Beach.

What makes it so perfect for us is, first and foremost, is its location right on Cox Bay Beach. This beach is one of the nicest in Tofino and is ideal for beach combing, surfing, long strolls, incredible sunsets and even bike riding on the hard-packed sand.

The Accommodations

At the Long Beach Lodge Resort, you can choose to either stay in one of their lovely rooms in the main lodge (many with ocean views and balconies) or in a more secluded cottage tucked into the temperate rainforest. As a family of four, we prefer the latter where we can spread out in a cozy two bedroom unit which includes two full bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and even an outdoor hot tub.

As I will admit to very much appreciating little luxurious touches, I especially love the heated bathroom floors, the plush robes, the soaker tub, the nice toiletries, and the locally-sourced coffee (in reusable jars). Even our dog Lucy loves her warm welcome kit that includes a mat, dog bowls and some irresistible dog treats.

The Experience

As soon as we drop our stuff in our room at the Long Beach Lodge, we cannot resist hitting the beach immediately. The draw of the ocean is just too great.

When our kids were younger, our beach experience was all about sandcastles, beach combing, and tide pooling on the rocks at the north end. Fast forward a few years, and we are now about surf lessons, boogie boarding and bike riding.

One of the best things about the lodge is that it has its own Surf Club right on the premises where you can arrange lessons or rent wetsuits and boards. Having done surf lessons with other providers in town, there is a huge benefit to having the gear and instructors available basically right outside your door. (Even more so if you are a newbie who is doomed to spending several fun, but exhausting hours trying to “pop up”.)

The resort’s Surf Club also has a very nice gym, a beautiful outdoor hot tub, a lounge (with a pool table), a cafe and a gift shop. For longer stays, many guests appreciate the on-site laundry facilities and gas BBQs.

Dining at The Long Beach Lodge

We love eating our way around Tofino. For such a small town there are some really fantastic dining options, from the very casual (Tacofino, Lil Ronnies BBQ) to critically acclaimed finer fare (Wolf in the Fog and 1909 Kitchen).

That said, you don’t need to leave the property for excellent food. The Great Room right at the Long Beach Lodge is very good and offers beautiful views of Cox Bay Beach. For more casual dining (burgers etc.),The Sand Bar Bistro is perfect and you simply could not pick a better place to enjoy Tofino’s famous sunsets.
