WHERE TO STAY IN SEVILLE
One of the best things about Seville (or Sevilla in Spanish) is its compact, walkable layout. The city’s main attractions are clustered in a relatively small area, making it easy to explore on foot. It’s also a safe and lively city, where people of all ages fill the streets well into the night.
When choosing between boutique hotels in Sevilla, it’s important to know a little about the central neighborhoods first. Below, I’ve provided a short description of each.
NOTE: The first four—Santa Cruz, El Centro, Alfalfa, and Santa Catalina—are all located within Casco Viejo, also known as Casco Antiguo (Old Town). This is the city’s picturesque historical center.
CASCO VIEJO NEIGHBORHOODS
- SANTA CRUZ – The heart of historic Seville, Santa Cruz is a charming maze of narrow streets, whitewashed buildings, and lively plazas. This neighborhood is ideal for first-time visitors. Major attractions like the Alcázar, Seville Cathedral, and La Giralda just steps away.
- EL CENTRO – Seville’s bustling downtown, El Centro is perfect for those who want to be in the middle of everything. It’s home to major shopping streets, lively squares, and cultural sites like the Museum of Fine Arts and Metropol Parasol (also known as Las Setas). Staying here means easy access to historic landmarks and modern conveniences.
- ALFALFA – Tucked between Santa Cruz and El Centro, Alfalfa is a lively yet slightly off-the-radar neighborhood with an authentic local vibe. Known for its bustling tapas bars, bohemian cafés, and boutique shops, it’s a great choice for foodies and night owls who enjoy a social atmosphere—all while being just a short walk from major attractions.
- SANTA CATALINA – A charming, lesser-known neighborhood in Seville’s Old Town, Santa Catalina blends historic charm with a laid-back, residential feel. Home to the beautiful Iglesia de Santa Catalina and a vibrant tapas scene, it offers a quieter alternative to Santa Cruz while still being within easy reach of the city’s top sights.
- EL ARENAL – Bordering the Guadalquivir River, El Arenal is known for its bullfighting heritage, the iconic Torre del Oro, and excellent tapas bars. It’s a great pick for travelers looking for a mix of history and nightlife.
- TRIANA – Located across the river, Triana is famous for its flamenco roots and vibrant ceramic shops. This neighborhood offers a cultural experience away from the main tourist crowds while still being just a short walk over the Puente de Triana.
NOTE: All of the neighborhoods mentioned above are included on the map in the next section. The next two are located a bit farther out to the north and northwest, but unfortunately, they didn’t quite fit on the map.
OTHER NICE NEIGHBORHOODS
- ALAMEDA DE HÉRCULES – A trendy, bohemian district packed with cool cafés, hip restaurants, and buzzing nightlife. It’s perfect for younger travelers or those looking for a more laid-back, artsy vibe.
- MACARENA – A bit farther from the main sights, this historic district offers a mix of old-world charm and a more residential feel. It’s ideal for those who want a quieter, local experience while still being within walking distance of the city center.
MAP OF SEVILLE NEIGHBORHOODS
I’ll be honest—I did my best with this map, but I couldn’t quite get the shapes angled exactly how I wanted. That said, it should still give you a good sense of where the neighborhoods are in relation to Seville’s main sights.
See those two magenta stars? That’s where you’ll find Seville’s three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Real Alcázar, Catedral de Sevilla, and La Giralda—all must-sees for a first trip to Seville. You’ll also likely find yourself strolling along the riverfront promenade in El Arenal and crossing into Triana to visit the Mercado de Triana or catch a flamenco show.
To give you an idea of walking distances: if you’re staying in Alfalfa, it’s about a 15- to 20-minute walk to the Real Alcázar. Likewise, if you’re staying in the center of Triana, expect about a 20- to 25-minute walk.
NOTE: I talk a lot about walking in this post for two reasons. First, Seville’s streets are so beautiful that the city is best experienced on foot. Second, the streets are so narrow and winding that walking often takes the same amount of time as driving.

BOUTIQUE HOTEL SEVILLE BOOKING TIPS
SEVILLE IS POPULAR & PRICEY
Seville is one of Spain’s most visited cities, especially during Semana Santa (Holy Week) and Feria de Abril (April Fair). Prices surge, and accommodations fill up fast, so it’s essential to book well in advance to secure the best rates.
TIP: I often book a fully refundable room on Booking.com as soon as my dates are set. Then, I check back frequently to see if I can find a better deal or a better option.
AIR CONDITIONING
Summers in Seville are scorching, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C (104°F). Even winters can be warmer than expected. Some budget accommodations lack air conditioning, so always double-check if this is a must-have for you.
POOLS ARE SMALL
If you’re considering a boutique hotel in Seville with a pool, be aware that most pools are tiny, more like plunge pools than full-sized swimming pools.
LIMITED VEHICLE ACCESS
Seville’s historic center is full of narrow, pedestrian streets, meaning some boutique hotels don’t have direct car access. If you’re driving, confirm parking options with your hotel in advance.
BEST LOCATIONS TO STAY
- El Centro & Santa Cruz – Close to major attractions like the Cathedral and Alcázar, but can be noisy and crowded.
- Triana & Santa Catalina – Offer a wonderful local ambiance with fewer crowds, while still being within easy reach of key sights.
READ RECENT REVIEWS
I highly recommend thoroughly reading recent reviews before booking. Many platforms default to sorting reviews by “most relevant,” but I prefer to switch to “newest.”
Nothing is worse than arriving at your dream hotel only to find out there’s new noisy construction across the street or that the pool you were looking forward to is under renovation!
